Wonderful news from NY. With Visa Waiver about to take hold for the Baltic countries there was a definite buzz in the air.

Krista Altok Tassa reports the following:

Despite teeming rainfall, some 100 travel agents, journalists, airlines representatives and individual travelers gathered at the New York Estonian House in New York City on Nov. 5 for the travel event, Destination Baltics: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania & Beyond.

Guests were treated to food, spirits and exotic desserts, such as Lithuanian wedding cake from the Baltic region.

The formal presentation included remarks from the Consuls General of Estonia and Lithuania, and the Honorary Consul of Latvia.

A brief film about the 3 Baltic countries was shown, followed by some specific slides about some of the more unusual destinations in each of these countries.

Then guests were able to meet with the various Consular representatives, travel agents who had exciting itineraries, including a hunting lodge in Estonia at a former manor house, and the upcoming song festival in Tallinn, Estonia; as well as nature walks in Latvia, and the grand castles of Lithuania.

The event was sponsored by The Estonian Tourist Board, Enterprise Estonian, The Consulate General of Estonia and the Estonian American Chamber of Commerce & Industry, along with the Consulate General of the Lithuania & the Honorary Consulate of Latvia supported by the Latvian Development Agency & Tourism Board.

Participating airlines included the following: Austrian Airlines, AirBaltic, Czech Airlines, Finnair, & SAS, and travel agencies Amest Travel, Vytis Tours, as well as I-TRVL.
