Valdis Dombrovskis nominated to Latvian PM position

Latvian President Valdis Zatlers has nominated New Era (Jaunais Laiks) party member, Valdis Dombrovskis, as prime minister and asked him to form a new government. Mr. Dombrovskis has most recently served as a member of the European Parliament. He also has been the Finance Minister for Latvia and was selected by President Zatlers because of his experience in the international arena, economics, and finance.
Mr. Dombrovskis has also worked in the United States as a Research assistant, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Maryland University, USA (1998).
He has an extensive resume and some highlights include serving as a member of the Latvian Parliament during its 8th parliamentary term (2002-2004). He was the Minister of Finance of Latvia (2002-2004).
Mr. Dombrovskis is meeting with all parties represented in the Latvian Saeima on Friday, February 27, 2009. The purpose is to quickly build an effective coalition government that can take on some of Latvia's most pressing economic challenges. He has already indicated that his priority will be to get the Latvian budget under control
